One Dress. Two Ways. – Transitioning Your Wardrobe

Here we are again. At that weird time of year when Starbucks and all the clothing stores decide it’s fall, but the weather says NOPE. Still summer. I’m tired of wearing shorts and sandals all the time, but I just glanced at a cozy sweater in a store the other day and broke out in a major sweat. So, it’s time to get creative – mixing up our summer wardrobe and easing into the transition to fall. Today I’m showing you how I’m doing it by wearing one dress two ways.

One Dress Two Ways

This is an outfit I’ve worn a lot over the summer, a simple striped t-shirt dress with sandals and a straw hat. And remember my post about the third piece rule? That’s why I added a cross-body bag! The whole outfit is cool and comfortable.

To transition this look for fall I added a denim jacket, a pair of mules (clogs and mules are huge this fall!) and a statement necklace. The dress looks shorter with heels, but since my top half is completely covered I’m fine with it. Okay, let’s talk about the denim jacket… I like rolling the sleeves up, so it looks more relaxed. And sometimes I tie it around my waist for an even more casual vibe. If you worry that a jacket might be too bulky, you can switch it out for a denim button up shirt instead and still achieve the same look.

The takeaway: You can add a light layer to a lot of your summer looks using the denim jacket/shirt. It’s a solid and a neutral, so denim looks good with any print! And by simply switching your sandals and flip flops for a closed-toe shoe, you have a more seasonally appropriate outfit. Have fun with it!
