On our most recent trip to New York City, we checked out the Museum of Illusions for the first time, and it was basically a building full of our favorite things – mind tricks, illusions, and puzzles. Nothing is what it seems in this museum, and we loved it!
The Museum of Illusions just opened last fall and is located between Chelsea and Greenwich Village. The interactive experience is perfect for anyone of any age who likes to have FUN! We laughed the entire time! Especially when we did the mirror that combined our faces. Let’s just say I’m so very grateful that Kingston isn’t a 50/50 version of me and Anderson. And I apologize in advance for the nightmares you’re going to have after you see the pictures below.
It took us about an hour to make our way through the whole museum. And for a family like ours with the combined attention span of a gnat, that’s the perfect museum experience! Some of the mind-bending games and puzzles in the playroom drove me nuts, because I couldn’t figure them out! We were all scratching our heads on a few of them. We learned about vision, perception, and why our eyes see things that our brain can’t understand. I loved that we could walk around at our own pace and spend as much time as the exhibits as we wanted.
I’ve seen a few people say online that the line to get in is sometimes really long. (Not surprising, because the place is awesome!) But we figured out the trick to getting in quickly and wanted to share it with you: go early on a weekday. We went at 9:00am on a Monday morning and walked right in. And we were the only people there for most of our visit! So get up and go early. It’s totally worth it!
Next time you’re in NYC, add the Museum of Illusions to your list of places to visit! And check out the other museum locations here. They’re all over the world!
