I’ve mentioned my love for pom poms here AT LEAST a few times! So this DIY will be no surprise – of course I’m adding pom poms to a hat! I made this hat a few weeks ago, and every time I wear it people ask where they can buy one. It’s kind of fun saying, “Oh, I made it!” 😉 And this DIY pom pom straw hat was really simple to make, so I wanted to share about it here. In fact, this is one of those projects that doesn’t really need a step-by-step. Once you see the supplies, you’ll know what to do:
– Straw Hat (I bought this cheap one from Forever21.)
– Pom Pom Trim (Purchased at Joann Fabric, but here’s the same one.)
– No Sew Glue
I was all prepared to rip the glue from the bottom of the black ribbon, so I could fold it up and tuck in the trim. But I didn’t even have to mess with dried glue, because the ribbon on my hat was only glued along the top! It’s like they knew I was going to do this. 🙂 So I just folded up the bottom of the ribbon, made a line of glue (a little at a time), and glued the pom pom trim to the hat. Once I made it all the way around with the pom poms, I cut off the excess then folded the black ribbon down.
One important tip – make sure the trim is high enough that you will only see the pom poms sticking out of the ribbon. It doesn’t look as good if you can see more of the trim. See the last picture if that’s a little confusing! No Sew glue is perfect for this project, because you can move things around if you need to before it dries.
My hat got wet at the beach last week, so the shape is a little wonky!
Ready for summer!!
