This time of uncertainty has caused so much added stress and daily pressures to most of our lives, and my home isn’t immune to any of it. So I’ve been making a point to prioritize my emotional health and well
being more than ever before. And for me, that means finding small ways to de-stress every day!
Right now taking time for myself looks like:
– Making sure I get in some type of workout every day. One of the positive results of quarantine has been more time to exercise… no excuses. What else was I going to do with all that time at home?! And I’ve realized just how healthy it is for my body AND mind. Last year I started going to my local gym, and even when they had to shut down earlier this year, they still provided workouts for us on Youtube! So right now I go to the gym twice a week, do the at-home workouts three times, and run or walk outside on the other two days. Moving my body helps my mental health so much, which in turn makes me a better wife, mom, friend, employee… really, a better person.
– Carving out regular quality time with Anderson. When we don’t have time to sit face-to-face and talk, or hang out on the couch watching a movie, or go on a date, (or laugh our heads off while I force him to do a relaxing face mask with me!!!) I get cranky and feel out of sorts. So prioritizing this time together is a huge part of self care for me.
– Taking supplements that help with stress and anxiety, restlessness, and brain fatigue. When life hits us with unexpected bumps, bruises, scratches, and cuts, we reach for a First Aid Kit. But where do we look for help for emotional emergencies? It’s trickier isn’t it? Natrol® helped me with this by sending me a ‘YOU First’ Aid Kit featuring drug-free solutions to life’s everyday hurdles! The kit included Natrol® Relaxia™ which helps reduce occasional stress, anxiety and tension; 3 a.m. Melatonin to help me fall back asleep if I wake up during the night; and Cognium® Focus, which is clinically shown to improve focus and concentration.† These products have been perfect for supporting wellness from the inside out!
– Finding some activities that help calm my mind. Reading is one of my favorite ways to relax and unwind. I’ve posted about some of my favorite books in the past! You can read those posts here. And I’ve specifically noticed that if I read on a screen it doesn’t have the same relaxing effect as when I read from an actual book. So I’m a big fan of putting all electronics away and truly “unplugging” as part of a stress reducing routine. Natrol® also included some coloring books and colored pencils in my ‘YOU First’ Aid Kit, and I think I might be hooked on that activity too! Painting my nails is also really relaxing for me. I know it sounds silly, but it only takes a few minutes and usually lasts a full week, so it’s worth it for the happy feeling I get every time I look at my hands!
A drug-free, self care routine is just as important as being prepared for physical emergencies. So think about creating your own ‘YOU First’ Aid Kit at home! And make sure you start with the newest products from Natrol – Relaxia™, 3 a.m. Melatonin, and Cognium® Focus. I’ve linked to some other goodies you might want to include in your kit below!
