Vessel NYC – Hudson Yards – New York City

Vessel is an impressive structure built as part of the Hudson Yards Redevelopment Project in Manhattan. It opened in 2019, and is located next to Edge NYC. Vessel was designed by British designer Thomas Heatherwick, and the pieces were made in Italy then shipped to the U.S. The elaborate honeycomb-style structure is made up of 154 intricately interconnecting flights of stairs, almost 2,500 individual steps and 80 landings! The vertical climb offers remarkable views of the city, the river, and beyond. It’s the main feature of the 5-acre Hudson Yards Public Square and cost an estimated $200 million to build.

Sadly, after being open for less than two years, the structure was indefinitely closed to the public after 3 suicides on site. 🙁 Isn’t that heartbreaking? You can still visit the area but are no longer able to climb the structure. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re planning to climb up to Edge (highly recommend doing that!) during your NYC adventure.
