U2 Joshua Tree Tour in Tampa

When I tell people that Anderson is a HUGE U2 fan they’re usually like, “Oh me too.” And I’m just like NO. Nope. You don’t understand.

The man wanted to name our son Bono. (Ironically, Bono’s name isn’t really even Bono!) On two different occasions I’ve watched him strategize about what hotel we should book based on where U2 has stayed in the past, hoping we might see them coming or going. We have to walk past Bono’s apartment when we’re in NYC. You know, just in case he happens to be headed out at that exact moment. Also, we own a Bono finger puppet. Like I said, next-level fan girl in my house.

His excitement is contagious though, so when we heard that U2 was doing a Joshua Tree tour and coming to Florida we grabbed tickets ASAP. My parents offered to watch Kingston, so we decided to make a little getaway out of it. On the day of the show, the weather was a disaster. We stopped and bought ponchos at Walgreens and found some Ziploc bags for our phones. This monsoon was not going to ruin our date with Bono! Anderson brought our biggest camera lens. I was not interested in carrying it around in the rain, but he wouldn’t even consider leaving it behind. This of course resulted in us having to explain to a lady working the gate that it was in fact allowed inside the stadium. Which led to me finding her supervisor and explaining the whole thing (in the rain) while Anderson was stuck outside the gate. It was quite a debacle! But thanks to him, we got some cool pics during the concert! And wouldn’t you know? After One Republic opened the show and JUST before U2 took the stage the rain cleared, a light breeze started blowing, and a double rainbow appeared over the stadium. It was “A Beautiful Day” indeed. See what I did there?!

My favorite part of the show was when they performed “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” I think it’s one of their best songs! This is my favorite line: “You broke the bonds and you loosed the chains, carried the cross OF MY SHAME.” I love that so many of the band’s songs are obviously about the Gospel and taken straight from scripture. Seeing thousands of people singing those lyrics (whether they realize what they’re singing or not) at a rock concert always makes me want to jump up and down. So I do! 😉 My other favorite parts were screaming with Anderson the whole night and running into friends who were also at the show!

I can’t wait to do it again!!! Hopefully these guys have another tour in them. They were moving a lot slower than last time we saw them!

Side note: We found some really good places to eat in Tampa, but I’ll save that… Bono gets his own post!
