Middle school science was not my favorite. Neither was high school science, but that’s not relevant here. I just didn’t care. At all. So every year I did the same science project. The title was “Which Nail Polish Lasts The Longest?” And it was pretty much exactly what you’d expect. We’re talking about life altering scientific discoveries. 🙂 Basically, my lifelong love of nail polish started early! And that brings us to the point of this post. Finally, right?!
Have you tried Sally Hansen Miracle Gel yet? I’ve read about it recently in several of my favorite magazines and finally decided to try it!
This sounds really weird, but I think of my nails as another accessory. One I wear everyday. (Ha! Yeah – that really does sound weird!) So I love painting them and have it down to a science – it takes me about five minutes and usually lasts a good 4-5 days. Not bad for hands that do a lot of dishes! My go-to polishes are OPI and Essie. But I’ve found that for me, OPI lasts longer. I do two coats. No base or topcoats. Just color.
When I read that Sally Hansen Miracle Gel claims to last “up to 14 days” just like a gel manicure, and it doesn’t require a light to set, I had to give it a test run. An extra coat sounded like a good trade-off for two weeks of pretty nails. So I bought the polish at Target and chose Wine Stock, a deep, fall-ish burgundy. The color and top coat were $8.99 each, less for both than I pay for one gel manicure. Wait. For the record, I don’t get gel manicures very often. Just for special occasions!
Process: The application was easy – two coats of the color, then one of the top coat. I did make the mistake of starting the top coat before the color was completely dry, and one nail was a little streaky. But after I gave the rest of them a minute to dry, it worked great. Then I just let my nails dry, and that was that!
Outcome: I loved the finished look! And my nails were pretty and shiny for about 5 days. Then they started chipping a little on the ends. And by day 7 I had to take the polish off. I don’t like chippy nails, and mine were looking pretty bad at that point! Turns out Miracle Gel didn’t last much longer than my regular polish. So… I’ll definitely finish the products I bought, but probably won’t buy it again.
What do you think? Has anyone else tried it?!
