These pictures are from an afternoon while Kingston and I were trimming one of the trees in our front yard. I looked at his backwards hat, his ever-present whistle (thanks a lot Grandma!), and his long, skinny legs and suddenly felt like I had to grab my camera. I didn’t want to forget this sweaty little guy standing there in the front yard.

After looking through these images, I decided to start a new blog series, “The Everyday and The Mundane,” as a challenge to myself. It’s so easy for me to capture the big moments in my family’s life – holidays, birthdays, vacations. I’m on it! But I rarely pull out my camera on a random Tuesday morning at home, or on a lazy summer afternoon while we color the back porch with sidewalk chalk. The every day moments. The mundane moments. I’m realizing that those are just as important as the big, celebratory events. And I don’t want them to be lost.

Matt Redman’s song, Your Grace Finds Me, talks about how God’s grace is ever present in our lives. The lyrics are beautiful, but the line that gets me every single time says God’s grace is “there in the everyday and the mundane.” It’s so easy for me to remember the way I felt God’s presence on my wedding day or at the moment I heard Kingston’s first cry and even after losing my Grandma. But his grace is there on a random, mundane Tuesday too. I can’t escape it. Praise God!

It’s there in the newborn cry
There in the light of every sunrise
There in the shadows of this life
Your great grace

It’s there on the mountain top
There in the everyday and the mundane
There in the sorrow and the dancing
Your great grace
Oh such grace

From the creation to the cross
There from the cross into eternity
Your grace finds me, yes your grace finds me

It’s there on a wedding day
There in the weeping by the graveside
There in the very breath we breathe
Your great grace

PS – I thought about including the technical details (ISO, shutter speed, f-stop) of the images in this series. Would that be helpful?!
