Puffy Hearts – Valentine’s Day Banner

Oh, I love Valentine’s Day.
All that pink and red TOGETHER, and the candy, and the cheesiness! Yes!!
It’s the only holiday (other than Christmas) that I decorate for. And every year I make some new Love Day decorations. This year I’m using a lot of black and white, and I thought I’d show you how to make this super-easy puffy hearts banner.

Here’s what you need: Fabric, Pen, Paper, Scissors, Needle, Thread, Pillow Stuffing.

Step 1: Draw a heart on your paper (trace one or just freehand it like mine) and cut it out.

Step 2: Trace the paper heart onto the back of your fabric. You’ll need to trace two hearts for each completed puffy heart.

Step 3: Cut all the hearts out of your fabric.

Step 4: Place two hearts wrong sides together and using your thread and needle, stitch all the way around leaving a small opening.

Step 5: Put enough pillow filling through the opening in the heart to make it puffy. I say the puffier, the better. 🙂

Step 6: Finish stitching up the heart, tie of your thread, and cut it. That’s it! Do this for each heart. I made six for my banner.

Okay, now that you have your hearts, you can decide how you want to put the banner together. This is the fun part! I taped my hearts to a thick piece of embroidery thread and added pink and red felt circles in between. You could use glue or even stitch them, but I like the idea of using the hearts for something else in the future. And because you all know I’m not good with the “less is more” approach to life, I also made a pom pom ball garland (by stringing them together with thread) and a paper heart garland (with hearts I cut from an old book and strung with yarn).

And a few more spots where Cupid threw up around the Almeida House:

  1. I love all those colours and textures together – it’s a beautiful banner 🙂 I’m a fan of Valentine’s day too so maybe I’ll have to give this a go while there is still time 🙂

  2. I LOVE all the banners!!! Your puffed hearts are so stinking cute! When I was a young teen I had my mom’s cousin tell me that every young girl should own a puffed heart and she gave me a silver puffed heart to wear on a necklace. You made me think of that with this post!(: And “where cupid threw up” made me laugh, lol! Love this post!<3

  3. I love, love, love this!! Can I share it on the GW FB page? I think the banners would be cute and people could up-cycle some shirts/books from a thrift haul. Thanks!
