Good:

– The first day of preschool.*

– Let’s talk about Publix for a minute. For those of you who aren’t local, this is a Florida-based supermarket. And it’s THE BEST! They have race car shopping carts (WIN!), the friendliest employees, a decent selection of organic food, and even give kids free balloons and cookies. Earlier this week Kingston and I went on a quick Publix run, and when we got there realized they didn’t have any race car carts available. Oh no! One of the managers heard me telling Kingston he would survive, this wasn’t the end of the world, etc and offered to go check the parking lot for stray carts. He came back empty-handed but then found us in the store a few minutes later with one of the carts. Kingston told him he made his day! A little kindness really does go a long way. And I was reminded that going out of my way for other people really is worth it! Good job, Publix! (PS-I called corporate and gave the guy a little shout-out!)

– Preschool = Early Bedtime. PARTY!!!!!!

– Kingston loves to make people laugh, and he’s figured out that people like jokes. He just doesn’t know what jokes are. So he yells, “JOKE!” Then laughs at himself and says, “Laugh, Mama. Laugh!”

– My friend Kelly spoke at a women’s event at church last week and said something that I can’t stop thinking about. She talked about how we often feel the need to do everything, be involved in everything, help every time we’re asked… but sometimes that means we’re so tired and rundown that we don’t do anything to the best of our ability. She quoted 1 Corinthians 13:3 – “If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.” So basically, it doesn’t matter if I’m running around like a crazy chic doing everything I’m asked to do – volunteering and teaching and leading this or that, if I’m not doing it with love. Sometimes I feel like I need to be doing stuff at church, so people know I love my church and am supportive of the ministries offered there. But my first priority (after my own relationship with Jesus) has to be my home. Because if I’m not loving well at home then what’s the point of all the other “stuff”? Kelly said something like this: “I was so busy doing everything I thought the Lord wanted me to that I wasn’t being who he wanted me to be.” Yes! I can totally relate. Kelly, thank you for honestly sharing your heart!

– This has become a routine: Me – “Ugh. What’s that smell?” Kingston – Laughing. This will only be in the “good” list for a little while, I’m sure!

– Shopping online beats shopping at the mall any day. We went to buy Kingston some school clothes last weekend (ie excuse to shop) and everything in the stores was for fall and winter. I get the fashion buying cycle, but seriously! I even spotted a few wool jackets. Which makes since considering that we don’t even wear pants in Florida until at least Thanksgiving.

– Kingston was chatting on his pretend phone the other night, and he said, “No! I don’t want to talk to you!” I asked him who he was talking to like that, and he told me it was a girl. Then said that he doesn’t want a girlfriend. He wants a brother. Um, okay.

Not-So-Good:

– *The second day of preschool. Wow. That was a doozy. We’ve now recovered though and rallied this week. Thank you, Jesus! I realized that my child has a little bit of my brother, Don, and Anderson’s brother, Wesley, in him. I’m scared.
