We’ve stayed at the Jekyll Island Club for so many occasions over the years – anniversaries, spring break, 4th of July, and random weekends away! So when the opportunity for a girls trip to this beautiful island came up, I was excited to show a few girlfriends why we love this place so much. The Jekyll Island Club was once a private hunting retreat for some of America’s wealthiest families. You know, the Morgans, Vanderbilts, Rockefellers, Pulitzers. But after a massive renovation in 1986, it’s now a hotel that even a group of mom friends from Jacksonville can enjoy! 😉 We didn’t have a set agenda but all agreed that we were exhausted and just wanted to relax and enjoy being together (and away from our families – ha!) On our drive up, we stopped for lunch at the best restaurant in downtown Brunswick, Reid’s Apothecary and all agreed that it’s definitely worth another visit. Then we shopped at the Market on Newcastle before making our way over to Jekyll Island. Once we got checked into the main building at the club, we spent the rest of the afternoon/evening exploring the property and laying by the pool then headed over to The Warf for a late dinner. And even though we were all full, we stayed up late eating more junk food than all of us combined have probably eaten in a month. All four of us had our own bed, and that might have been the best part of the whole weekend! The next morning we were in desperate need of coffee, so we had breakfast at The Pantry, and I feel like that place deserves a gold star! Can I hand those out? We stopped in several times over the weekend, and not only was everything we ordered delicious, but it always came out quick, and the service was above and beyond! The rest of the day was spent waiting out a late summer rainstorm and then heading over to the Ocean Club to sit by the pool – another day another pool – before heading back to reality. Jekyll Island really is the perfect getaway from the Jacksonville area!
