baby almeida, your parents are clueless

I promise not to turn this site into a baby blog over the next few months but thought it would be fun to share little updates every month or so. We're really excited about this whole "becoming parents" thing although neither of us has a clue what we are doing. That has become apparent very quickly. I'll give you a few examples:

-At my very first Dr. appointment the nurse told me I needed to start thinking about a pediatrician. I was totally confused by the conversation and finally blurted out, "For what?" She politely reminded me that the end result of this process is a baby, and babies need pediatricians.

-Anderson wore a pink shirt to my first ultrasound, "In case it's a girl." Unfortunately we didn't find out, because I was only 6 weeks pregnant at the time. 🙂

-He also asked me recently if I'm going to start wearing sweatpants. I have absolutely no idea what his angle is here. Maybe he's wondering if I'm going to turn into a big frump? OR…he's hoping we're going to save a lot of money on clothes this year?

-We're trying to decide what room to put the baby in. It turned into a debate; because someone thinks that babies are so small they don't really need their own room. Right. So, we'll just put it in the guest bathroom?

-I've decided not to read any pregnancy books. Mainly because I just don't have the desire. So I just ask my doctor lots of questions. Sometimes her answers make me laugh; other times they make me cringe…and she laughs! Either way, it's pretty funny.

-We got our first baby gifts in the mail last week! (Other than the boxes of diapers my Mom has been buying for us every time she goes to the store). One was a cd of lullaby renditions of U2 songs from my college friend, Jamie! We were really excited and listened to it already-ha! And I know it does the trick, because I saw Anderson nodding off while he was listening to it. The other gift was a dvd from Anderson's friend, Aaron, that helps you get your baby to stop crying and SLEEP. Yay! I'm sure we will watch it more than once.

Thank you sweet friends for being so thoughtful-This is really fun!

  6. You two are going to be great parents! I remember how clueless I was with my first too! We are so excited for you both 🙂

  7. I definitely got a laugh out of this post. Great first gift of Happiest Baby on the Block. Another good one is BabyWise. It was a life saver for both of our babies to get them to sleep thru the night by 6 weeks. There's too many cute maternity clothes out there to save money on clothes this year – Anderson's out of luck.

  8. It is amazing how we all start out knowing nothing and our baby survives anyway. You will be great parents!

  9. That's too funny! I kept asking my doctor questions and she finally gave me a little pocket guide (of what to eat, medicines I can take etc) so I wouldn't call her a million times, and told me to read "What to Expect when You're Expecting". Honestly, I haven't read much in it except looking each week to see what my baby looks like lol but Greg reads it so I guess i can start directing questions to him (=
    How far are you?
Congratulations again, I know you guy

  10. This is probably the best parenting post I've read in forever! LOL!!! love it!!!! You guys are going to be awesome! And please keep posting baby posts!

  11. Sometimes being unprepared isn't totally a bad thing! You can sign up to get weekly updates about your baby (the compare your baby to a vegetable or a piece of fruit which is pretty amusing) every week at http://babycenter.com. It's a great website!

  12. LYNS- I LOVE THE SIGN ABOVE AND YOUR PICTURE. I FELT THE SAME WAY WHEN I FOUND OUT I WAS PREGNANT WITH JAMES 29 YEARS AGO (WOW) I WAS SO EXCITED BUT DIDNT HAVE A CLUE. i REMEMBER ON THE WAY TO THE HOSPITAL 9 MNS LATER I PANICKED BECAUSE I COULD NOT REMEMBER HOW TO BREATH. (WE WENT THRU LAMAZE) LOL YOU GET IT HONESTLY…A FAMILY THING. YOU AND ANDERSON WILL DO JUST GREAT YOU WILL BE "FUN:" PARENTS!! LOVE YA, AUNT NANCE

  13. I'm so happy for the two of you and you'll make great parents. The Happiest Baby on the Block DVD will be a lifesaver. I read the book and it was the only thing that allowed me to regain some sanity. If you need any tips, I'm only a phone call away. :o) Take care and hopefully I'll see you around sometime soon.

  14. Questions are the key! The What to expect book is overrated. Babycenter.com has a weekly email they will send you on your babies growth. The Babywise book is my best friend. My daughter has been sleeping through the night since she was 3 months old and now she is 11mths. Congrats.

  15. Lyndsay, I must say that was hilarious!! I don't normally post on blogs but I just had to tell you I was in bits reading this!! I think what tickled me the most was the pink shirt at the 6wk ultrasound 😀 Keep up the preggo posts, their really good laughs! All the best to your pregnancy, you'll do just fine in the end, trust me! x
